How fast can you run a mile?

9 minutes?

8 minutes?

7 minutes?

Steve Scott is an amazing man. He is well-known for being one of the greatest milers in American history. In his career, he ran 136 sub-4 minute miles (more than any other runner in history)!!!!

That is so fast. Wow.

And he came to our school. It was an HONOR to meet him. He gave a talk at flag salute. He talked about how you don’t have to come in first place to be a winner. And I agree. There were many races and championships where he did not come in first place. He may have missed the mark by hundreths of a second. And that did not make him a loser at all. He is a total champion in my opinion!

I had a great Thanksgiving vacation week. I am thankful for my family and my friends. On Thanksgiving morning I got to run in the Oceanside Turkey Trot. It was a 1-mile timed race. It was a lot of fun and it was a close finish. I came in third place 🙂

This is me at the awards ceremony with some Miss Teen Vista Princesses.

Been a while since the last update.. oops

Time flies when you’re having fun and super busy. I did make it to 400 miles, 413 and a quarter, to be exact– last year. 🙂 🙂 🙂

This was the last award giveout of the year. Three students made it to 400 miles and Sergey made it to 425. He was a FAST fifth grader- WOW!

Well, at the beginning of the school year, I set a goal of running 100 miles. I did that before Christmas. Then I set another goal of running 200 miles by Easter. I did that. Then I set another goal of running 300 miles before the end of the school year.

On April 29th, I hit the 300 mile mark. Now I don’t really know what goal to set. I’m just having fun running every day. Here are some pictures from the awards ceremony at school. I received another t-shirt and a cool trophy. My class was really nice and cheered for me when they called my name.

This year was my first time running in the Jr. Carlsbad Race. It was so fun. There were so many people there and I was happy that my dad ran with me.

Here we are before the 1-mile race, waiting for our start time.

This photo was taken right after the gun went off.

During the race:

The finish line!

I came in 5th place out of 225 runners. My time was 6:43. What a fun day it was 🙂

Today I finished running my 100th mile at school. I didn’t think I would be able to do it until Monday because I needed to run 18 laps or 4 1/2 miles. Since it was Friday, though, I was able to run before school. I did 13 laps in the morning.

Then at recess, we were given 10 extra minutes because of reading club. Usually I run 5 or 6 laps, but because of the 10 extra minutes, I was able to run 9 laps! So I ran a total of 22 laps today which is 5 1/2 miles.

We went out for dinner tonight to celebrate. I’m going to go for another 100 miles.

10 more miles..

When school started this year, I was introduced to the running club. This is where you can run around our 1/4 mile track during recess each day and on Friday mornings before school.

I noticed a lot of older kids wearing t-shirts from last year that said, “I ran 100 miles” and I wanted a t-shirt like that, too. So I decided I would try to run 100 miles. That’s 400 laps. I really like running. After every 5 miles, the running club gives you a plastic foot to put on a key ring.

Today, I reached the 90 mile mark. I only have 10 more to go! My goal is to finish 100 miles before Christmas break. I think I will make it. I am really excited.

What makes power?

Today I am going to test for my second belt in Taekwondo. At my school, the belts go like this:

White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Purple, Blue, Brown, Red, Red-Black, Black

In between each new belt color is a senior belt or stripe belt. Right now I am a yellow belt and I am testing today for my yellow stripe belt.

My test will include a demonstration of physical skills (jump rope, push-ups, stamina), technical skills (punches, kicks, blocks, board-breaking, and forms), sparring skills, and an interview.

In addition to reciting the names and birthdays of each of my parents and grandparents, I will be asked the following questions during the interview:

1. Can you count to ten in Korean?

Hana, Dool, Set, Net, Tasut, Yosut, Illgop, Yodohl, Ahope, Yohol

2. Can you explain what makes power?

Power is made by weight and speed together with relaxation, concentration and confidence, Sir!

3. What does Taekwondo mean?

Tae: Foot for kick or stomp

Kwon: Hand for punch or block

Do: Way of life or philosophy

At my last belt test (my first), I had no idea what to expect and I was underprepared for the interview process. I had a really hard time and even though I barely passed that portion, I didn’t feel too good about the experience. This time, I practiced everything over and over and I feel great about today’s test. I can’t wait!

Today I am going to tell you about skateboarding. I am going to tell you about Mike. He is my skating teacher. He sometimes is nice enough to give me some stickers. He teaches me how to do everything in sckateboarding.

Two of my favorite things are dropping into the bowl and grinding. Good bye now

See you soon.
