90 feet tall and bullet proof

Wow time really flies when you are BUSY! 7th grade has brought a lot more homework and managing my time has been a challenge. My schedule basically consists of going to school, training, doing homework, and training some more. This may not sound like a lot, but for me, it adds up quickly. I have

Cross Country back in full swing!

This past weekend I ran in the OC Youth Cross Country Meet in Yorba Linda. It was a beautiful day and a great, mostly flat course. This was the first official meet of the season and I was surprised to see so many teams and runners. In fact, my division, the 11-12 year old boys,

A girl named Meadow

Everyone has different reasons why they run. I run because I truly enjoy it and I love the thrill of competition. Recently, I heard about a great organization that matches runners with children with special needs who can’t run themselves. You get to be a support for your buddy and exchange notes on facebook in

Track Meet Recap

Hi Friends! Last weekend, I competed at my second track meet. It’s early in the season but I’ve been working hard bringing 100% to every practice. I was really pleased that I was able to cut 8 seconds off my 1500m time from 2 weeks ago, and 7 seconds off my 800m time.  It’s so

Here we go again!

Hi Friends! After taking some time off, I’m back in full swing with track season. I had my first meet this past weekend where I ran the 1500m and 800m events. I felt pretty strong and am happy to be training with my teammates again. You can see my results here. Now that I’ve moved

Chelsea King’s 5K

This past weekend I participated in a really unique 5K race. I recently learned about this event through some friends of mine who were putting together a team. Chelsea King was a high school cross country runner and straight-A student from Poway, CA. In 2010 she was murdered while doing a practice run after school.

A Winter Track Meet

Last night, instead of a regular cross country practice, my coach told our team to join in on a local track meet. So we all went to Cathedral Catholic High School for the Winter Distance Festival. I didn’t know what to expect but realized shortly after we arrived that this was going to be fun.

My first half marathon

My 4th Annual Turkey Trot

I ran at the Oceanside Turkey Trot for the 4th year in a row this year. It was great. I really love our family tradition of waking up really early on Thanksgiving morning and driving to Oceanside’s Pier to race. I started when I was 7 years old, running the mile race. This year, I

Kicking things up another notch

*guest post at Team NOW We’ve just past the Halloween mark and for me, that means it’s time to kick my training up another notch. I am five weeks away from the Junior Olympic National Cross Country Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I’ve been having a great season but am ready to start breaking new

Don’t just practice… Practice like a champ!

*guest post at Team NOW I read an awesome quote today by someone called, Coach K. He said, “To have championship season, you have to have championship practices.” I really really believe that is true. I’ve always thought that it doesn’t matter how many practices I go to, or how long I practice for. If

Someone I watch and learn from..

These people are friends, family members, authors, speakers, professional athletes, etc. I “hang around” them by spending time with them, reading their books, listening

Triathletes ROCK.

Last weekend, I met a super cool, very inspiring, and incredible triathlete named John Hatala. He is a retired Marine who competes in various triathlons including IronMan and XTerra races. Since I love competing in triathlons, I was so excited to be able to ask Mr. Hatala questions about training, races, and expert tips. I

3.3 Seconds

I have 3.3 seconds on my mind. Sometimes I think- that’s so short. Some roller coaster ride drops are around that long, and I think they’re way too short. On the other hand, 3.3 seconds can seem like forever, like if you had to stand in an ice-cold shower for that long. Brrrr! 3.3 seconds…

2012 Encinitas Sprint Triathlon

Yesterday I did the Encinitas Sprint Triathlon at Moonlight Beach. It was my first non-youth triathlon with longer swim, bike, and run distances. It was also my first ocean swim. I was pretty nervous about the swim since I’d never really swam straight out into the ocean before. The water temperature was super cold, too.

The “Field”

I am just starting my 2nd season of Track and Field where my usual events are the 1500m run and the 800m run. This year I wanted to add the Field part of Track and Field to my schedule. I decided to try the Long Jump. I have no training in it, but who cares?

End of the year thoughts…

I heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. This picture was from an 800m race in May 2011 during the final 100 meter stretch to the finish. That’s me and my good friend, Willie. We became friends after racing against each other practically every single week during track season. He is an incredible

The Runner Who Didn’t Give Up

Watching this race gives me gOoSeBuMpS. Heather Dorniden is so inspiring. Her coach once told her, “Sometimes you don’t know if you have a next year or even a tomorrow, so just go out there and run it the best you can.” Sounds like good advice to me. And that is what she did.

New Recruits!

This past weekend was our USATF Cross Country Association race. Throughout this season, I’ve been training with only a few other boys in my Bantam division (ages 9-10 years). One of the things I like about cross country is that even though it is a very individual sport, there is also a fun team part.

So Proud of Mia

For the past 2 weeks, my little sister Mia started coming to our team’s cross country practices. She wanted to try it out and maybe even do a race as a SoCal Roadrunner! As a 6 year old, she would be racing in the Sub-Bantam (7-8 yr olds) division. I was so excited when she

Skate Park Addiction

I am addicted to the skate park. When I am there, 2 hours go by really fast. Too fast. I love it because it is so fun going up and down the ramps and sometimes I feel like I’m flying! I practice different techniques and tricks over and over and over and over. Last week,

After the race…

Right after the awards ceremony at IronKids, we were starving and went to have lunch at my absolute FAVORITE place, Fuddruckers!!! There aren’t any Fuddruckers near my hometown anymore, so whenever I spot one I go CRAZY. I had a cheeseburger, fries, and a huge Oreo milkshake– YUMMMMM!!! Afterwards, we made the drive back to

Hello, I am back from Myrtle Beach! More than 2,000 athletes ages 7-18 were there and I had the best time! It was really hot and humid out there- like 99 degrees. As soon as we got there I did a light mile jog along the beach. I had a big pasta dinner afterwards and

Buzz Cut: Before and After

This weekend I’m heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It’s going to be very very very HOT out there. In preparation for the heat, I decided to cut my hair really short. I can’t remember when I had really short hair so it was fun to

Last weekend I went to Los Angeles for a Track & Field meet hosted by the LA Jets Youth Track Club. Each year they attract some of the best track and field athletes in the region. I entered two events: the 1500m and the 800m dash. My first race was the 1500m. Since that distance

Junior Carlsbad and Carlsbad 5000 Races

This past weekend I ran in the Junior Carlsbad 1 mile race for my 3rd year in a row. I think this might be one of my favorite races. It is so exciting and there are so many kids running. I love it. As always, I get my usual nerves right before the race, but

Super Cool Gadget: Nike Sport Band

I got this awesome sport band for Christmas from my Uncle Tom, Aunt Sarah and cousins Maddie and Bella in Minnesota. It is so cool because you can track EVERYTHING from your run. Pace. Distance. Time. Calories burned… Plus, it’s water-resistant! It feels like a watch and I just love that my family would give

It’s ON!!!

I had a nice 4-day weekend. I spent a lot of time working on my new campaign this year to raise $1,500 for my school. Between Kinkos, the post office, and recruiting help from my parents and little sister, I managed to get my letters out this afternoon. Yes!! I guess you never really know
